Why the hell are Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull, Speed Racer and Star Wars: The Clone Wars up for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel 2008? None of them are that bad!

But i went to see Persepolis at the cinema.
Wow, what an amazing film. It should of won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Sorry Ratatouille, but as fun as you where it was nothing compared to this.
Go and see it, if you can.
Also, GRRR at my paid account running out. Will be back to my non ad addled LJ in a couple of weeks.

Watched Open Season today (getting through the blu-ray backlog). Overall, it was funny and a good film. Probably a 7/10.
Next week - Monster House!

Linky £59.99 for 5, mostly half price in the end.
Some good ones in amongst the poor. We'll be getting the Kids/Family one (and trading Are We Done Yet in towards something in GAME or Gamestation, LOL) and the Drama one.

Superbad was very good, very funny. Looked good in HD, nice surprise for my first pure comedy HD purchase. (Shaun of the Dead isn't a pure comedy :))
I also watched the first episode of Galapagos. F**king awesome, it was like there was a window on the islands and I was looking through it!

Did not notice till i looked at reviews of the US release of the 2 different Matrix HD DVD boxsets released in the US.
One (The Complete Matrix Trilogy) has PiP (Picture in Picture) commentaries, and some of the extras from the previous single releases of the Matrix on DVD, while the other (The Ultimate Matrix Collection) has the same as the Complete, but with all of the extras from the previous DVD releases of Matrix on he flip side (DVD). Plus it has an extra 2 double sided discs (DVDs), with The Animatrix (in SD :() and the 3 bonus discs from the DVD Ultimate Collection boxset.
The UK boxset has the films as double sided discs but not the other 2 discs. So its sorta inbetween the 2 US releases.
Dont really miss the other 2 discs though - ive got the Ultimate Collection DVD anyway. Only thing that might of been missing is The Animatrix, but they chose to keep it in SD on the US HD DVD Ultimate Collection. They better give it a separate HD release soon!

Rewatched Transformers today (with dad watching aswell). Still awesome. Oddly the online features didn't work. Still came with the "updating" message at the start (how annoying that is going to get.....) but quickly came up with an error message about them not working. Meh..... just wanted to watch the film!
How can you mess up the framing on the Blu-ray release of the first Pirates of the Carribbean film?

Note the red line? Thats where the top of the image is on the Blu-ray release! It happens to varying degrees during the whole 9 minute (or so) Jack vs Will fight at the blacksmiths. Grrrr.
Apparently theres going to be a recall in the US, but no news of the UK yet.
Double Grrrrrrr.

Why didn't anyone tell me Close Encounters of a Third Kind is out on Blu-ray tomorrow (in the UK).
*preorders from amazon (£13.98)* (although dad said it has to go away for Christmas now)
Kinda appropriate since within the first year of having a DVD player we got Close Encounters of a Third Kind on DVD.... now continuing that sorta tradition with the HD formats, hehe.
First time i get to compare all 3 versions of the film thanks to seamless branching too (which worked very well with Spider-Man 2 and the choice of theatrical or extended cut)
Okay as I'm writing this entry it seems my iBook's keyboard is f**ked up again, so I'm going to have to shut down and reseat the connecter again.... and if this keeps up i guess I'll be going back down the apple store.....

Kirsten Dunst's nipples - Now in glorious HD.
Childish i know :p
Still a good film, even with those 2 distractions!
BTW - the boxset is £30 in Zavvi and HMV if anyone from the UK on my friends list wants to get it. Only Spider-man 3 has extras though, which makes me think sony will be giving Spider-man 1 and 2 a proper separate release at some point. Cheeky gits.
Oh and only spider-man 3 has PCM audio (aswell as Dolby Digital). 1 and 2 have to make do with Dolby TrueHd. Odd, since i thought all Blu-ray disc's HAD to have a Dolby Digital audio track.... unless one can be encoded into the TrueHD mix aswell? If so how come HD-DVDs normally have both?
AHHHH, for the good old days of Dolby Digital and DTS..... now we have PCM, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby DIgital Plus and 2 versions of DTS HD as well as those 2 from the DVD days.... So connnnnnnfuuuuussssiiiing

Well things have started moving now - got a dvd in the post. No anime, but it was one i was waiting for (Disney's Chicken Little). That leaves a few uk anime dvds, 2 US anime dvds and a HD DVD to come.....
Oh and Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl looks very good in HD.

So King Kong (2005)
Good film, looks AMAZING (especially in HD) but it is too long.

Awesome film, AWESOME!
"Tonight we dine in HELL!"

X-Men 3 The Last Stand - not as bad as i was led to believe. In fact it was pretty good.
Okay no where near as good as the first 2 films, but still, not bad.... not bad....

and for whatever reason, its filesize is a lot less than the download for Crash 1. Oddness.
Oh and The Simpsons Movie - tis great :)

I haven't really made any entries this week. Its just been very "meh" all round.
It sometimes feels like its just all getting too much, like just when things are looking up something else goes wrong.
Someone out there is having a great big laugh at my expense - and im getting sick of it.
I think within the next year or so im going to make a fresh start. Move away from home, with all its bad memories to somewhere new, fresh, exciting! Somewhere where theres actually places to go at night, instead of just sitting at home bored to death.
I just have no idea where yet.
-------
Anyway did watch some anime and some films this week. Elemental Gelade vol 2 and Noein ~to your other self~ vol 3 where watched. Noein is great. Its something special, Manga have a real gold title on there hands there.
In terms of Films, ive been catching up with some Japanese movies ive had sitting around for a while. Battle Royale and the incredibly weird (yet very, very awesome) Survive Style 5+.
"What is your function?" (seriously, Vinnie Jones - never knew he was so good, lol)
Proof, if anyone needed it, that i can watch things subtitled. I just prefer to watch my anime dubbed.

Saw Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End today.
Good fun film, better than Dead Man's Chest but not quite as good as The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Im not sure why many reviews say its too long - i certainly wasnt bored during it! Great ship vs ship action at the end too (oh and was that a very obvious sex reference at the end - in a Disney film?)
----
Also - IM GOING ON HOLIDAY!!!
By myself for the first ever time. Im really excited!
I'll be going to Brighton, which is on the south coast of England. I'll most likely be staying in a Bed and Breakfast (a hotel would cost too much) but its not like i'll be spending much time in my room anyway.
I checked out how much it will cost to get there by train - i thought it would be around £40-50
Its only around £20 for a open return (up-to a month between going and coming back). So transport wont cost too much, which leaves more for accommodation and spending money.

Totally laughable really - would it even have a chance of working. Apparently they did quickly dismiss it, but even thinking of the idea was silly.
Of course if a hormone was discovered that controlled a persons sexuality, i could imagine some groups using it to "anti-gay" people. Terrible thought. Absolutely terrible *shudders*
----
So this isnt a totally serious post - Saw Hot Fuzz today. Great film. Just like Shaun of the Dead its both a hugely funny comedy and great homage to a genre of films (in this case those action blockbusters Hollywood made - the Die Hard films, the various buddy cop films like Lethal Weapon and Bad Boys etc)
A lot of swearing in it - which makes for a funny extra on the dvd where they show you the "TV Edit". So funk you, you bar steward ;)
